At Celine Medical Center, bone density and quality assessment is performed using REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) technology, a modern method of non-radiative analysis of bone structure.

The REMS system uses an advanced medical ultrasound device, specifically designed to analyze bones in the lumbar spine and hip without the use of X-rays.

Technology based on ultrasound and spectral analysis

REMS equipment integrates several high-precision components and technologies:

  • High-frequency ultrasound transducer
    Uses a convex probe, similar to standard ultrasound, that emits ultrasound and allows exploration of bone structures in real time.
  • Optimized frequency for bone tissue
    The system typically operates around 3.5 MHz, providing a balance between penetration depth and signal resolution.
  • Radiofrequency (RF) signal acquisition
    During the examination, the device not only displays the ultrasound image, but also collects raw radiofrequency signals, essential for advanced bone analysis.
  • Advanced software processing
    The data is analyzed by specialized algorithms that compare the obtained signals with validated clinical databases, generating information about the density and structural quality of the bone.

The difference from classic osteodensitometry methods

Unlike DEXA-type investigations, which use X-rays, REMS technology is:

  • completely non-radiant;
  • non-invasive and safe for repeated use;
  • capable of providing information not only about density, but also about the quality of bone microstructure;
  • suitable for monitoring the evolution of bone health over time.
